In order to make a claim for loss or damage, as with any kind of insurance (home, car, etc.), you will need to provide certain documents. In this case, we will require the commercial purchase/sales invoice for the goods, or a receipt.
The invoice is essential for the insurance company, as it is the best proof of the goods’ value. The following mandatory information must appear on the invoice:
- Invoice number, tax ID number, VAT number, product details and description of taxes, even if the item in question is exempt from tax.
- The sender and/or recipient’s details should also appear, so that it can be proven that the goods belong to one of the parties.
This document is of utmost importance to make any claim, whether for loss or damages. However, if you do not have the invoice, or it is more than 60 days old, the carrier or insurer may accept a sworn statement.
